Darla L. Carter, DVM is the full time veterinarian who has been serving the clients of Leon Springs Animal Hospital since 2003. She is a graduate of Texas A&M and obtained her first degree, a B.S. of Animal Science, in 1988. In 1989, she earned her B.S. in Veterinary Science and graduated in 1992 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. In 2011, Dr. Carter purchased the hospital and became the sole practice owner. She has always had a passion for both animals and the medical field, and expects her clients to call or come by any time they have a question about the health of their pets. Dr. Carter believes that preventative medicine and open communication are the keys to the health of our companion animals. She will strive to offer the very best and most compassionate care available to her patients. Dr. Carter enjoys spending her off time with her family and serving in her church. Her biggest area of interest outside of work is to stay active in pursuit of a life of full devotion to Jesus Christ. Dr. Carter and her daughter participate in church activities, crafting, games with friends, movies, bowling, and occasionally raising bottle-fed kittens.

Clinic Supervisor

Byron came to work for Leon Springs in 2008 and loves animals. He learned how to be a technician from our team and he is doing an excellent job caring for our patients.  Byron is a great addition to our team and cares about our patients and philosophy in pet care.  Once again nepotism pays off as Byron is the son in law to our practice manager, Deb.  In addition to being in charge of our food inventory Byron is our go to painter and handyman--if we want something level or painted he can make it happen.  He has several cats at home and helps manage his extended family's chihuahua herd that lives next door!  Byron has a beautiful wife named Heidi and three sons, Christian, Parker, and Peyton.  Food is the way to Byron's heart.  Byron loves to cook and has a special passion for sauces - everything is paired when he's in the kitchen!  Byron's newest passion is bowling and you can find him Wednesday nights at University bowl striving for 300 points for his team.  Join the league and you can play against him and he might even teach you how he has combined bowling and cards!

Client Relations

Christy joined our team in 2014.  Christy is a proud retired military wife of a 21 year veteran.  She spent the most recent years as a home schooling mom of 3 wonderful children who definitely keep her busy.  She is a teacher by trade but has many organizational, communication and creative talents which prompted her trying us out.  Christy fit right into the veterinary practice.  On her 'free' time she enjoys cake and cookie decorating and crafts and cheering on her Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Mindy Bowman, DVM

Dr.  Bowman and her family recently moved to San Antonio from Colorado.  Dr. Bowman grew up on a farm in southwest Iowa where her family raised an assortment of animals.  She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Oregon State University in 2001.  She obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  In 2013 she completed her Masters in Public Health through the University of Iowa. For the past five years she has worked as an associate veterinarian in a small animal/equine clinic in the mountains of Colorado.
Dr. Bowman enjoys practicing small animal medicine, especially focusing on preventative care and education. She also enjoys soft tissue surgery and dental care.
In her off time she is busy spending time with her family, traveling, and volunteering.  She and her husband, Dave, have four children; Layney, Evan, and Sydney, and Alec.  They also share their home with their dog Oreo, a lab mix, plus two cats, Worm and Avoca.  They are all enjoying the warmer weather and exploring the San Antonio area.
John has been working for our hospital since 2004. John is our go to inventory guy who keeps us running day to day. He has many years of experience raising birds and caring for dogs, cats, and exotics learning how to be an excellent technician through hands on experience.  He enjoys spening time with his son Nathaniel. John likes watching independent films and taking care of his yard. Maya, his pug, drives him crazy by digging up all of his carefully planted landscaping.  In addition to taking care of his own dogs and cats John has a pet sitting service.
Jackie has been with us since 2011. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician Institute of Houston in 2011 and became and RVT in 2012.  Jackie is now a full time student at UIW Pharmacy School.  Jackie still works during school breaks and on weekends.  In addition to spending time with her family, Jackie enjoys bowling, volleyball, and hiking with her dogs.

Carly joined the LSAH team in 2012. She is a full time student.  Carly has 10 a year history participating in 4H raising and showing sheep.  With that kind of experience she has been an asset our Groomer and our entire team in the back helping to bath our patients and she is able to care for our boarders very well from day 1.   Carly is also a dancer on the side which no one else in our clinic can claim!  Nepotism works well for us as Carly is the siter in law to our other Animal Caretaker, Jared.  Carly makes sure the clinic, yard, and cages are clean and comfortable for grooming and boarding pets in our hospital.
