Darla L. Carter
Veterinarian
Darla L. Carter, DVM is the full time veterinarian who has been serving the clients of Leon Springs Animal Hospital since 2003. She is a graduate of Texas A&M and obtained her first degree, a B.S. of Animal Science, in 1988. In 1989, she earned her B.S. in Veterinary Science and graduated in 1992 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. In 2011, Dr. Carter purchased the hospital and became the sole practice owner. She has always had a passion for both animals and the medical field, and expects her clients to call or come by any time they have a question about the health of their pets. Dr. Carter believes that preventative medicine and open communication are the keys to the health of our companion animals. She will strive to offer the very best and most compassionate care available to her patients. Dr. Carter enjoys spending her off time with her family and serving in her church. Her biggest area of interest outside of work is to stay active in pursuit of a life of full devotion to Jesus Christ. Dr. Carter and her daughter participate in church activities, crafting, games with friends, movies, bowling, and occasionally raising bottle-fed kittens.

Byron came to work for Leon Springs in 2008 and loves animals. He has four cats at home and helps manage his extended family's chihuahua herd. Paley, the loveable featherweight boxing champion, recently joined his family... the cats still haven't figured out what to do with her. Byron has a beautiful wife named Heidi and has a teenage son named Christian. Byron also moonlights at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown, and has been bartending since 2002. Byron loves to cook and has a special passion for sauces - everything is paired when he's in the kitchen! Byron is currently working towards his RVT certification.

Chris Animal Caretaker
Chris joined the LSAH team in 2011. He is a junior at Clark High School and is very much looking forward to getting his license. When he isn't slaving away in our kennels, Chris enjoys playing the bass guitar for his band and cooking. And did we mention his dad is our very own Byron? (It's proof that nepotism works.)

Liliana
Groomer
Liliana joined our team during the summer of 2010. Before deciding that grooming dogs was the profession for her, Liliana graduated from Texas A&M University and accepted a commission with the USAF. Having traveled the world, she settled down in San Antonio and brought a small zoo with her, to include: five dogs (Pebbles, Bam Bam, Shasta, Missy and Fifi), two guinea pigs, twenty-three birds, and a singular bearded dragon, Spinner. When she's not wielding her scissors and razor, Liliana enjoys scrapbooking, horseback riding, running, and barbequing with her family.

John
CVA
John has been working for our hospital since 2004. He enjoys spening time with his son Nathaniel and fiancee Melissa. John likes watching independent films and taking care of his Dodge Charger. Maya, his pug, drives him crazy by digging up all of his carefully planted landscaping. John's four cats often collaborate in stealing food and openly protest their weight-loss diet.

Mark

Mark has been at the hospital since 2005. He brings over ten years of veterinary experience to the table, and has worked with both domestic and exotic pets. He and his wife Adriana welcomed their first child, Matthew, into the world in January of 2009. Their other family members include Zeus and Shelby, brother and sister boxers, and Ginny, their step-sister rat terrier. Sammy, their cat, thinks he is a dog. Mark produces rock music and loves FPS computer games.

Laurel Receptionist
Laurel joined our staff in July of 2011. Her furry/feathered/finned family includes dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, birds, and a singular perch named Lucky. When she isn't knitting or crocheting sweaters, Laurel enjoys painting, watching movies, and spending time with her friends. (She also very much likes shopping, but wasn't sure if that counted as a "hobby.")
P.S. We look forward to wishing Laurel well on November 11, 2011, when she will be marrying her fiance Martin!

Jackie
Future RVT
Jackie has been with us since 2011. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician Institute of Houston in 2011 and will be taking the test to be come a registered veterinary technician soon. It is a good thing she picked the veterinary field because she already has 2 great danes, a lab mix and a coonhound mix. Dogs who treat windows as doggie doors are sure to end up in the clinic on a regular basis. Jackie enjoys bowling, volleyball, and hiking with her dogs.

Taylor
Animal Caretaker
Taylor came to work for us in 2010. She has one dog at home and enjoys hiking on the weekends. She also loves working - in fact, she wouldn't even stop filling out charts long enough for us to take her picture. Taylor has excellent sketching skills and made sketches of 4 of our patients for our 2011 Christmas card. If you would like to hire her to do your pet's sketch just talk to her anytime.
